10/15/11 Lowell, MA - WE WIN... AGAIN!
Two consecutive wins has now brought St Mikes record up to a 50% win rate with 3 games to go. The game was played at Lowell on a cool and breezy day with passing showers. The game was played on a synthetic football field.

This match was a very physical affair, played on a synthetic surface. I'm sure the boys were more than a little sore come Sunday morning.

St. Mikes played the first half facing a sometimes stiff breeze and did very well to get the first 10 points of the game. After 3 minutes Steve Thompson kicked a 20 meter penalty goal. Less than 10 minutes later, St. Mikes scored their first try of the game when team captain Matt Foley playing at 8 Man, broke from the back of a turning scrum to run 5 meters to score. Steve Thompson converted the try. For the next 20 minutes, UMASS Lowell dominated territory and possession pinning St. Mikes deep in their own end of the field. UML scored two tries in this period and were now leading the game by 14 points to 10. However, going into the final 5 minutes of the first half, St. Mikes worked their way back into opposition territory and from a scrappy ruck 20 meters out from the try line, Matt Foley again broke free with ball in hand and ran in to score under the posts and untouched. The try was converted by Steve Thompson. Shortly after Steve Thompson added his second penalty, this was a very good kick, 30 meters out and near the side line. At the break, St. Mikes could be very pleased with a 20 to 14 point lead after playing into the wind for the first 40 minutes.

In the second half, St. Mikes used the wind well, often pinning UML back in their own end of the field with an intelligent kicking game. After a period of pressure on the opposition, Keith Montford wheeled from a line out and with ball in hand ran 10 meters to the UML defensive line. With determination, momentum and support from his team mates behind him, Keith forced his way over the line to score a very good try. The final try of the game came 30 minutes into the second half. Matt Foley received a pass around mid field. He kicked high and long. The ball came down just 10 meters out from the UML try line and their defense was unable to secure it. Steve Thompson who always chases kicks hard was rewarded for his efforts as he dove between several UML players to score as the ball rolled over the try line. Steve converted his own try to take his points total to 17 for the day. The game was over and St. Mikes had played well to hold UML scoreless in the second half.

Overall, SMC gave a good performance. St. Michael’s defense has in the past been brittle, however, it is now showing signs of improvement. The next two games will be a bigger challenge for the players and will serve to demonstrate if the team has progressed since its heavy loss to Bentley two weeks ago.

Team: Davis Peck, Jose Ramos, Keith Montford, Chris Jacob, James Hughes, Sam Rooney, Chris Dustin, Matt Foley, Brian Meloche, Steve Thompson, Kevin Cote, Jack Rooney, Cameron Gonzalez, Zach Benuck, Tyler Pearl

The 4-0 Killer B's square off in a classic goal line stand versus the Umass Lowell side.

4-0 for the Killer B's. B-Side wins 28- 15.

The killer B’s win for the 4th straight week. Unfortunately for the second straight week the opposition did not front with a full team. The game changed to 10 a side and 20 minute halves.

With extra space on the field points were scored at a rate of 2 per minute, St. Mikes running in 4 tries and UML B’s 2. St. Mikes had the wind at their backs, but it was UML who scored first with a penalty kick after 2 minutes of play. Three minutes later St. Mikes were on the board with a try to Dennis. This was a very well taken try. From a throw to a lineout that cleared all the jumpers, Nate Quealy got to the loose ball first and sent it out to the backs. The ball went through all the players in the backline and found Dennis on the outside, who out-sprinted the defense to score near the corner. Bobby Poland kicked a very good conversion. UML struck back with a try that was not converted. Our second try was a solo effort, but just as good as the first. UML were deep in their own territory and attempted to relieve pressure by kicking. However, the kick was not a good one, instead of going for the touch line the ball was kicked into the middle of the field where Cameron was waiting. Seizing the opportunity Cameron first ran right, but seeing a wall of defenders in front of him, changed direction at pass and ran fast towards the left side of the field. He out flanked the defense and was in for a try. Bobby converted to make the score 14 to 8 to St Mikes. Two minutes later Bobby was on the score sheet again, this time from a high ball he kicked down into the opposition 22. UML was unable to secure the kick and Bobby following up his own kick, gathered the ball and raced in to score. He then converted his own try. UML were next to score 15 minutes into the half with a try and conversion. That would be their last points for the day. St Mikes however, were not done. They scored one more try when Joe Cassady broke from a ruck with the ball in hand. He made ground down the blind side and after drawing the defense, he offloaded to Will who was well positioned in support. Will fended off two attempted tackles and ran the remaining 20 meters to the try line. Bobby got the two extra points from the conversion just as he had done for the other three tries.

What was supposed to be half- time, turned out to be full- time as UML decided they had had enough. It was a disappointing finish for the team and in particular Corey Stewart and Michael Ricci who had travelled from Vermont and did not get to play.

Team: Mike Brown, Pat O’Connell, Kevin Hanlon, Joseph Cassady, Dennis Sullivan, Daykwon Hughes, Nate Quealy, Bobby Poland, Fillip Deptula, Cameron Gonzalez

Reserves: Corey Stewart, Mike Ricci, Keith Montford
