Jordan Recine finds a seam against the University of Vermont's defense.

Due to the game against Stonehill being postponed until next spring, St Michael’s and UVM got together for the final week of the year. St Michael’s ability to cover injuries was tested today as several players were out. Most notable was Brian Meloche’s fractured Fibula (lower leg) from last week’s game.

In the A game, both teams looked evenly matched after 30 minutes of play with UVM scoring right on half time to take a 14 to 8 point lead. Despite some competitive work from Saint Michaels they were unable to get any further points in the second half while UVM added two more tries to their tally.

For Saint Michael’s, Steve Thompson opened the scoring with a 35 meter penalty kick after 5 minutes of play. UVM scored a try after 15 minutes that was converted. Then 10 minutes later, Zach Benuck finished off a well-worked blind side move that saw Matt Foley pick up the ball from the base of a scrum around 40 meters out. He ran blind, drew a defender, and then off-loaded to scrum half Andy Bourque. Andy had just enough time to get his pass away to Zach as the defense closed in on him. However, that was UVM’s last defender leaving Zack a clear run to the line to score.

Team: Davis Peck, Jose Ramos, Keith Montford, James Hughes, Mike Welch, Sam Rooney, Kevin Cote, Matt Foley, Andy Bourque, Steve Thompson, Filip Deptula, Jordan Recine, Zach Benuck, Cameron Gonzalez, Tyler Pearl.
Reserves: Joseph Cassady, Mike Brown

The guys played very well this season, and this picture sums up what was a very fun and successful campaign for the St. Michael's Rugby program. The team would like to thank all the coaches, family and friends who have shown their enthusiastic support all season long.

St. Michael's B-Team drops their final match of the season.

St Michael’s B’s were held scoreless in the first half, while UVM put away two tries, neither of which were converted. Mid way through the second half, St Michael’s finally got on the scoreboard with a try to Matt Foley. The lead up to the try came when Filip Deptula playing his first game at flyhalf, had a good run that included evading several tackles and getting within 5 meters of the try line. A penalty was awarded to St Michael’s from the ensuing ruck. Seeing an opportunity, Matt Foley tapped the ball and went quickly. He was brought down one meter from the line, but with an outstretched arm was able to get the ball over the line for a try. The kick was unconverted and that was the last scoring of the game.

Team: Mike Brown, Pat O’Connell, Joseph Cassady, Dennis Sullivan, Daykwon Hughes, Chris Dustin, Nate Quealy, Fillip Deptula, Anthony Agnitti, Sam Rooney, Will Kosch, Corey Stewart, Kevin Cote. Reserves: Matt Foley, James Hughes, Davis Peck, Keith Montford, Cameron Gonzalez, Tyler Pearl.
